Hello, This is Fiona.
I’m not celebrating Valentine’s Day with flower and chocolate, but a nice rooftop (romantic) dinner is hard to resist. Fat Shogun is located on the rooftop of BTPN building. There’s this simple Fat Shogun sign, dominated by the gold and black colors and the city lights reflected on the large windows. A bar is located on the corner. Needless to say, this place is romantic.
Their inspiring set menu only adds on to the sweet ambiance. Called "Epicurian Of Nikkei," a romantic dinner journey related to Nikkei history. Nikkei is a combination of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine. So, set aside the thought of complicated stock exchange when you taste each meal. Its origin can be traced back to late 1800 when the Japanese worker immigrated to Peru, to work on railroads. Some of them stayed and the cuisines blended into what’s known today as Nikkei.
So, enough history, let’s see what I have on my Valentine’s table.
Trio Starters
The story began “when Japanese started integrating Peruvian, bringing their culinary heritage." There are three small dishes (nigiri & classic rolls Ceviche and tiradito) are served on one plate as you start your dining journey. Ceviche, a popular seafood menu on South American coast, is buttery and spicy. Then comes the classic Japanese dish of Salmon Nigiri and Tuna Classic Roll. Fresh and tasty. The third one is a little bit of both, reflecting the influence of Japanese immigrants on Peruvian cookery. It’s called Tiradito, a Peruvian Raw Fish dish, similar to carpaccio with spicy sauce.

Crab Salad
"The fusion of the cuisines cultures didn't happen overnight, but took place progressively." So next comes the stack of lettuce, seaweed, lump crab topped with salmon skin. served with homemade Thai Goma dressing. I must say this one is the best. Lettuce is fresh, crab is fresh and two thumbs up for the seaweed. The Thai Goma, a fresh and sour sesame dressing, complete the meal altogether.
Sea Bass/Salmon Misoyaki
The main course marks the beginning “to combine these two parallel worlds to form the peak wave in the Nikkei trilogy". Because the description reads “choices of Sea bass or Salmon, 36 hours marinated with our Misoyaki sauce then Gratin to perfection,” me and hubby ordered one each. Misoyaki (soy sauce combined with sugar) is as advertised on the menu, really tasty. Turned out both are as delicious. But if you have to choose, go with the buttery sea bass.
Chocolate Panna Cotta
This Milk Chocolate, mix berries & vanilla ice cream dish makes us want to believe that Nikkei was indeed "What a sweet Journey." The ending is always how we had always wanted it to be, sweet. The combination of Chocolate Panna Cotta plated on the bottom and the sour fresh mix berries ice cream brings out the best on each side. Just like the Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, let’s just say that both blend well.
A long journey may get you thirsty. So we have an extended list of drinks we order along the way.
Le Petit Moët is a collaboration between Moet and Chandon. When we order cocktail, we get free popcorn, served upfront.
La Vida Loca
A Moët & Chandon mix, but with Gin, Black Rasberry Liqueur, Strawberry Syrup and Lemon Juice in the club as well as Strawberry Mint Garnish. I like it because of the strawberry and the sour hint of lemon.

Ice Age
This Moët & Chandon mix comes with Belvedere Vodka, Elderflower Liqueur, Citrus Juice, and homemade Bubble Gum Syrup. Topped with Oyster Spicy Gum Lemon Peel garnish. Hubby ordered this and he thought it has an interesting spicy-sour effect. A good thing for him.

Dinner costs Rp. 400k,++/person.
We love this place. Although overall, it’s a more romantic, special occasion kind of restaurant but I don’t see why can’t we come and dine with friends here. They also have an outdoor VIP room for 10-12 persons.
No, it’s not too late to win your girl (or man) because due to popular demand, this special journey is extended beyond Valentine’s Day. Make sure you book it this weekend by calling (021) 22958196.
