Fresh Fusion At Wilshire

The name Wilshire reminds us of one of the main roads of Los Angeles. But the Wilshire we discovered at Senopati is a comfy bar and restaurant located on top of a cake shop. Its street-facing window gives the much-needed romantic atmosphere, perfect for your Valentine’s Day.

Fiona is enjoying a nice chit-chat on a cool rainy day at Wilshire.

We found out that the name was indeed inspired by Wilshire Boulevard. And it translates to the cuisines. The foods combine local flavors with international cuisines, and are meant “to liven up Wilshire experience in Jakarta by made several fusion dishes,” said Cla Lisca as General Manager of Wilshire as quoted by the press release. The famous boulevard itself is a melting pot of different cultures which settled down in that side of California. Staying true to its name, well, we know Los Angeles is one lively place, the restaurant also provides extensive wine and liquor collection. Wilshire’s Executive Chef, Dolly Chia, is a University of Southern California and Le Cordon Bleu graduate. And I’m lucky enough to taste the following:
Appetizer
Chicken Tortilla Soup (85k)

Chicken Soup made with corn tortillas, red onion, sliced avocado, cilantro, lime and sour cream.
Speed up! The top of the cheese will melt otherwise. I love this from the firs dig although I was expecting a baguette or likewise to dip on the soup. Nachos would be awesome too. And please have larger tortilla. Overall, it’s tasty.

Grilled BBQ Chicken Tacos (95k)

Tacos containing guacamole, Monterey jack cheese, red onion and cilantro.
What’s California without Taco haha. I love this one, maybe because I love Mexican food? I bet Ruth would love this as well; she’s always looking for great Mexican food to munch on. The fillings are generous and the meat is soft. Add on to that, the unforgettable cheese.

 Main Course
Thai Coconut Roasted Pork Ribs (225k)
Prik nahm pla sauce, the classic Thai condiment sauce and coconut stock cooked with pork ribs roasted.
I think this one is rather plain. It’s not as tender as I expected but somehow I find the sauce tasty. Sour, Spicy and Fresh.

Pan Seared Dory Infused with Passion Fruit (155k)

Fresh passion fruit sauce poured over Pan Seared Dory and served with potato cubes.
A little on the salty side, but the fish is tender and doesn’t smell fishy (it’s what matters to me). I expect more of a passion fruit flavor and a hint of sourness on the dish.

Dessert
Chocolate Dream

Made of dark chocolate ganache, chocolate glaze, vanilla ice cream, chopped caramelized cashew.
If you’re a chocolate fan, you’ll love this. Enough said.

This February, two new additions arrived on the menu. And I want to challenge you to it.
Insane Fried Rice (65k)
Some call it crazy, some call it mad. But here it’s insane. This is a new twist to the traditional Indonesian fried rice better known as Nasi Goreng Gila. What’s insane is the generous toppings of sausage, meatballs and tomato stir-fry. A portion for share, but as this may quickly become a favorite dish, you’d probably want to order for yourself. Think beyond your ordinary Nasi Gila.

Pepper Beef Sirloin Sandwich (145k)
Focaccia bread sandwich containing USPA Prime Sirloin, sautéed mushroom, Monterey jack cheese, fried onion rings, mesclun and served with chips.
Huge and delicious bread. Balanced with generous fillings and tasty meat. Tender enough for those thinking about taking one large bite.

Whisky Shower

Tropical Rainforest
If cocktail is on your table, then pick from one of the latest addition to their list:
  • Whisky Shower (112k), Comprised of Frangelico, Speyside Single Mat,and Lemon.
  • Indonesian Lovers (105k), A perfect blend of Brandy, Chocolate,Cream and Cassava.
  • Tropical Rainforest (49K), Mocktail consisting Strawberry, Apple, Pineapple, Orange dan Lemon.
I will go back for their Spanish-fusion dishes, especially the Chicken Tortilla Soup and Grilled BBQ Chicken Tacos. I hope there will be more on the menu.
