Trip to Industrial Southbox Prapanca

Let’s admit it, an open-aired food court with industrial look may be tempting. Located on Prapanca, the outstanding place called Southbox can be a little tricky for the first-time visitors. Yes, it stood out from the elegant-looking buildings nearby, giving the vibrant feel without entering the roads of Kemang. Lunch or dinner, Southbox can offer you with exciting options.

I visited the place on a Friday night and it was full. If you arrived by car, parking is done by valet (Rp15k). Seating isn’t that many, and larger group may have trouble finding a place to sit down. But overall, it’s a fun place to mingle – and on Friday night they have HBO screening on the main food area. Not that you’d go and watch, but it’s something nice to have. 

Now, the food. The two-story place serves mostly rice bowls from different ends of the world: Mexican (Namex), Indonesian (Mangkuk), and Middle Eastern (The Halal Bro's). Halal Bro’s is interesting. Kept mistaken this one for other places with similar names. You get a rice bowl with a combination of meat and lamb topping. Cooked in special sauce and topped with mayo and chili sauce. It simply tastes delicious. 

But if you’re tired with rice, or simply want to skip it for diet’s sake, this place has other options too. Bakmi RN, for example, is a noodle stall owned by a celebrity couple, Raffi Ahmad and Nagita Slavina. Quite an ordinary noodle with familiar taste, costing Rp25k per bowl. This stall is one of the most popular, with endless line all night, from customers to Gojek drivers. Then there’s Quebec Burger, serving mini burgers and pizza burgers with fries. Mini burgers (Rp30k) taste familiar as it reminds me of the burger sold at school festivals. I personally dislike the sambal included on the list of sauces but overall, I like it. Next time would ask for the ones without sambal. Chicken brothers paired wings with waffle and can be another alternatives for snack.

Ends the night with either Mango Sticky Rice (yes they have this) which is much better than expected. The mango is sweet and sticky rice does tastes similar to the one you’d find on the street of Bangkok.

The rainy season is here – and I hope to visit this place during day time when it’s cloudy. Maybe to grab ice coffee, juices or gelato. Hoping it won’t rain.
