Penfolds Bin 9 Launching Shangri-La Jakarta

We were asking ourselves, what’s our lucky number when a tempting red invitation arrived on our inbox, a ticket to savor the launching of Penfolds Bin 9 Cabernet Sauvignon at Satoo Garden, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta. It’s Penfolds, and you just can’t turn it down. So, Fiona agreed to go and try her luck with the free flow.

It’s always hard to overwrite a wine taste. At the entrance, I was faced with the dilemma of the night, Penfolds Bin 8 Cabernet Shiraz on the right and the star of the party, Penfolds Bin 9 Cabernet Sauvignon, on my left. The two booths were separated with an array of Shangri-La delicacies, ready to be paired with each glass. I was welcomed with a lot of laughter. Casual, as the invitation said, but not leaving classy behind. It’s a wine party afterall!

I walked to my right. It feels just right to greet the star of the night first. Penfolds Bin 9 Cabernet Sauvignon sums up the flavors spread across South Australia, in particular the aged soils of McLaren Vale. A rather complex taste, the star of the party comes in deep crimson with classy tune. Thus comes the name “Red Party” at Satoo Restaurant, Shangri-La, Jakarta to welcome the latest addition to the premium wine line. The notes mentioned a mix of fresh impression with boysenberry, rhubarb and apple, followed by herbs, tomato puree, celeriac and anise. I swirled the wine glass and smelled a faint trace of pomegranate and cedar. I love the balance and the spicy hint to my palate, especially when I paired it up with ribs (or dessert haha).

I walked around, enjoying each step as I say hello to the people I know. I stopped by Penfolds Koonunga Hill Autumn Riesling, took one glass and saw salmon en croute. A perfect pair to have as I listen to the band on stage. It’s the kind of noise you can have a pleasant time in. Then I met the other one, Penfolds Bin 8 Cabernet Shiraz, which has a lighter shade and dryer taste. Crafted in the Penfolds style, this multi-district blend is also a native of South Australian vineyards. I paired the dessert with this one. The notes mentioned blackcurrant, tomato-leaf and sour-cherry and other red fruits on the nose.

You can enjoy Penfolds at any occasion. A classy wine party with friends, or at home, at a romantic dinner with your special someone.

The event itself was opened by remarks from Leo Christian, Wine Ambassador from PT. Mandiri Graha Persada and Penfolds Winemaking Ambassador Patrick Dowling. Both Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz are well identified with Australia. Penfolds adds its multi-region personality and noble history to each bottle. The red dresscode blends into the festive ambiance. I’m right where I want to be. I was lucky to be the first to indulge in the Australian red.

Ruth believes her lucky number is 8 because it’s an infinite. I think now 9 is my lucky number because it introduced me to a great wine to remember.

Can’t wait to see more from Penfolds and Shangri-La.
